| Let's see; Aguirre was Player of the Year, nationally, in High School. Two-time All-American, unanimous, and multi-Player of the Year, set the record for single-game scoring in the Final 4 for a team most people expected to be under .500, had the first truly great year by a Freshman and really still top-5, team lost 10 games in 3 years only; 25/8/3 slash shooting 55%. At Dallas was the NBA's first Mexican-descent star, took a terrible team to the playoffs and won a series in 1984 (how he wasn't All-NBA that year is idiotic); 25/6/4 slash in Dallas, 5 playoffs, 1 trip to the Western Finals, game 7, 4 series wins. 23/7/4, shot .492. Then 2 NBA championships. Could score from anywhere, had to be double-teamed. Media in Dallas always ragged on him, coaches always ignored or yelled at him, but he persevered, national media ignored him until 1986. If he'd been drafted in New Jersey or another Eastern team, he'd be in the Hall already. Of course he deserves a Hall Call. | |
